Christmas 2016

Keeping Jesus at the heart of Christmas can be a struggle sometimes, especially as we get nearer to the day itself and panic about how we will get it all done: that must-have toy; a perfectly cooked turkey; a beautifully decorated house; enough chocolate to last until New Year’s Eve.

N.B. Final date to place Christmas orders: Friday 16th December

You can use resources from Lifewords to help you focus on the why rather than the how. Immerse yourself in the story of Jesus’ birth. Share it with your friends and family. Encourage your church to engage your community in the nativity story and light up the heart of Christmas.

Ideas for using our resources in the run up to The Big Day:

   Carol singing

If your church is hosting carol services or carol singing events in the community, why not give people God With Us? A simple telling of the Christmas story using beautiful illustrations.

  Children’s parties or services

From Messy Church to children’s parties to nativity plays, what do you give as a gift at this time of year that's a bit different from a chocolate Santa (although that would be a lovely present to go with it!)? Why not give out Meet the Cast? Lively, fun and great for those who aren’t familiar with the story.

  Youth groups

Struggling to find another way to talk about Christmas with young people? Have a look at Light Up. Using contemporary news photos, there are postcards and downloadable resources that will spark a discussion about what it means to be a light in our world. Be part of the #lightrevolution this Christmas.

  Schools work

Your local school might need someone to come in and talk about Christmas. Expect the Unexpected and Journey out of Darkness are both very different ways to tell the story that are aimed at primary school-aged children, and will encourage discussion and engagement.

  Christmas day

After the service, most people will go home and get wrapped up in unwrapping presents and eating turkey and pulling crackers. Give them something to remind them why: The Christmas Story tells the story of the first Christmas using just the words of the Bible and some beautiful illustrations.
